Dinner at Prime 112 in Miami

Prime 112 was the highlight of my recent business trip to Miami. We picked this restaurant not only because of it's great reputation as a steak house, but also because I have a friend on the staff.

The funky, modern restaurant was very busy on the Wednesday night we were there, and from what we heard it's like this every night. In my opinion, every night is Saturday night on South Beach!

As soon as we sat down we were presented with heavy menus with hefty prices as well as one of the best bread baskets I've ever had. The cheesy baked bread was like nothing I'd ever had before, cheesy, buttery, flaky. The way that bread should be!

We started our meal with the pan seared diver scallops with slowly braised short ribs and truffle mashed potatoes ($25) as well as a bottle of the Prisoner. The scallops were a huge hit - I loved this dish and the fantastic blend of flavors. I wasn't sure about the short rib and the scallops together, but it worked well. Very, very well. It was by far my favorite thing of the night!

For the main course we shared a 12 ounce filet mignon ($52), five cheese truffle macaroni and cheese ($13) and white truffle french fries ($15). Yes, there was a truffle theme at dinner. The 12 ounce filet was a perfect size for three people to share, especially since we had so many fabulous sides (like the un-pictured beets and a second bottle of wine) to accompany it.

The, just when we thought we had too much to eat, the kitchen sent out complimentary desserts of the chocolate and peanut butter s'mores with vanilla ice cream and peanut brittle and deep-fried oreos. Both were amazing!

Our bill came to around $300 for three people so dinner was pricey, however the food and service at Prime 112 were fantastic and it's worth checking out when you are in town.
