Affordable Holiday Entertaining with Whole Foods

There's something about the Holidays that makes people crazy. I think it's because they try to be super-human. Cooking, cleaning, decorating, shopping, wrapping, addressing cards, baking, giving to charity, etc. It's all too much for one person to do - somethings gotta give.

That's where Whole Foods comes in.

The prepared foods section at Whole Foods is one of my favorite places . When I shop there during the week I usually pick up a salad for lunch, their mac n cheese fueled me for more than a few long runs this fall. This past week, Whole Foods invited some local Boston bloggers to come check out their prepared foods and sample some of the thing they offer.

Whole Foods can supply you with food for any sort of party, large or small. They have a huge variety of items from Spring Rolls to Satay to Deviled Eggs to Sushi, Lasagna and Turkey dinners. There's almost nothing they don't have! And, what makes it even better is that it's affordable. They have budget-friendly party packs starting at just $9.99 that offer things like cubed cheese trays, antipasti and guacamole.

Some of the items we sampled could be split into three categories; cheese, appetizers and dessert. The cheese table displayed the different ways goat cheese could be used. There were a variety of dips and, of course, the olive one was my favorite. The appetizer table had everything from chicken and beef satay to arancini - the star of the table, in my opinion. For dessert there were two bite mini cupcakes (two thumbs up), mini cheesecakes and any type of miniature decadent dessert that you could think of. Something about a 'mini' dessert makes it feel so personalized and indulgent - perfect for a party!

And then there was alcohol. What party is complete without it?! We sampled a Mionetto Il Prosecco (less than $6/bottle) and a new line of wine that Whole Foods will be carrying called Three Wishes ($2.99/bottle) , which has a fantastic Cabernet. Can't beat that price, especially around the holidays. My personal favorite of the night was a wine called Bodega Bernabeleva Camino de Navaherreros Vinos de Madrid. It's a light bodied, smooth wine that retails for $13.99/bottle and is something any wine lover would enjoy - and it has a pretty label.

So, if you need help this holiday season, go no farther than your neighborhood Whole Foods Market (mine is the one on River Street in Cambridge, who hosted this shindig!).
