Takeout that's Worth It

Life is busy and sometimes you need to get takeout. Unfortunately, most takeout places having boring, unhealthy menus and food that doesn't taste very good - yet costs a lot. Whenever I order from these places I always finish my food and then claim that the meal wasn't worth it. It being the calories, the money, the time, the business or all of the above. I prefer to spend my money going out to eat, rather than having takeout (exception: Upper Crust Pizza) and eating at home.

Since I can't always rely on getting pizza every time we're desperate, I need to find an alternative source for takeout in the area. This is when I consult Yelp. For the most part, I think the reviewers on Yelp (and most other sites) are full of shit. I usually read the good and bad reviews, and most of the time I read reviewers past reviews, to get an idea of what their dining personality is. If someone only gives 3 stars to Clio but gives 5 starts to a Dunkin Donuts, I disregard all of their reviews (c'mon now). Like everyone else, restaurants and their staff have off days and unfortunately, people experience it - and Yelp about it. Still, it's a great resource for reading reviews and hearing about new restaurants, I love it.

From multiple sources I've heard that Basta Pasta was the best takeout in the area, and I've wanted to try it for a while now. The reviewers on Yelp wrote about how huge their portion sizes are, so I knew we woulnd't need much food for two people.

I stopped at Whole Foods to pick up some weekly essentials (as well as some new items to try) and a vegetable to serve along with dinner. I called for takeout from the WF parking lot, and by the time I arrived (10 mins later) my food was ready.

Arancini:

Garlic Bread:

Fusili Bolognese with asparagus:

Everything was really great. One bolognese was enough for three dinners. I couldn't even finish mine! The garlic bread was not that great, it was a little soggy when I brought it home, but I put it in the oven for 10 minutes to crisp it up. Overall, this was a great takeout meal and one that I (and my wallet - $25 for all of this food) don't regret! I am looking forward to trying more items from the Basta Pasta menu!

  2. Wow, Basta Pasta looks great!

My takeout is limited to the Upper Crust and sushi from Fins. So I'd love to give a new place a try!

Melissa, upper crust now has competition in my house..though I crave pizza more than any other takeout.
