We started the meal with a few snacks - mussels, marinated olives and a great bottle of wine. The wine had a nice flavor, medium body and was a good compliment to the meal, especially the entree.

We shared appetizers of the oxtail and the sardines. It was my first time trying oxtail and I loved it. The meat was so tender, it fell right off the bone, and there was the perfect amount of fat. The sauce was tasty, but light enough to not overwhelm. The sardines were good, but needed more seasoning and were way too much work for me to enjoy. I definitely swallowed a bone or two!
braised oxtail: cristy polenta, sweet sour shallots, romesco

wood-grilled sardines: eggplant, pine nuts, golden raisins, garlic, capers, balsamic

For dinner we shared the cassoulet. I loved the different aspects of this dish. It had a little of everything. The pork shoulder was fantastic, very tender. The duck was good, but a little dry. And wow, I have never had blood sausage like that before - it was amazing. This was a pretty big portion, we couldn't even finish it (damn bread!).
cassoulet: braised pork shoulder, duck leg confit, boudin noir, cannellini beans

I know these pictures aren't the best (iphone) but the food was delicious and we had a great time. As for the restaurant, I loved the vibe and the elegant yet casual atmosphere. I prefer going out to dinner on weeknights, it’s so much less chaotic and you never feel rushed. The snacks came quickly and there was just enough time between courses for a little break. We have a list of about 25 restaurants that we want to try in the Cambridge area, and the Blue Room is definitely a place I would try again.
I haven't been to the Blue Room in such a long time. I never get over to Cambridge. But maybe with nicer weather on the way (fingers crossed), I'll head over there. :)
ReplyDeleteI know, it's so much easier to go places when it's nice out. But, it could be a bad thing!
